How to make water level indicator ?

Now, everyone is aware of the condition of water and how we are paying a huge amount of money for a little amount of water. And, everyone knows that this amount of money will increase more in the future, because of the decreasing amount of water or there can be no presence of water in the future. But can we change the future? No, we can’t. But we can change its time, so in this post, you are going to read about ‘water tank level indicator’ which also work as ‘water alarm’ which will help you in saving water.

Benefits of ‘water tank level indicator’ or ‘water alarm’:-

Everyday a huge amount of water is wasted due to the of the water during filling water tank, so this system will let you know about how much water is filled and will also indicate you, when the tank is completely filled so with the help of this we can save a huge amount of water daily. Now to buy any such type of alarm will cost more than making this, so this post is going to help you in learning about ‘how to make the water tank overflow alarm’ or ‘water level indicator ‘.

Working principle of ‘water level indicator’ or ‘water alarm’:-

Now, this system is going to work on the very simple circuit related to the property of water that says, water allows the flow of current. This circuit will have three LEDs (you can choose on the number of LEDs on the basis of your tank and requirement), one buzzer, one battery, and some wires. Now for example, if my tank is half filled it will show two LED glowing and when it will completely filled buzzer will start making noise and you will able to save some water for the future.

Materials Required:-

  • LEDs ( I am using three you can use according to your requirements)
  • 9-volt battery
  • Battery cap
  • Buzzer
  • PCB or Breadboard or any other base for the circuit
  • Resistance (I am using 10 ohms, you can use any other on the basis of your LEDs)
  • Some wires

Step 1 – Draw the diagram on PCB and fit all components:-

Now this step is only if you are using PCB. You can use a permanent marker to draw circuit.

Step 2 – Now follow the diagram and to understand perfectly read the following steps:-

  1. Take a wire from the negative end of the battery cap {which is connected to the battery (and usually black is for negative)} and connect it at the lowest point in the water tank(you can also hang it simply in the tank).[According to the diagram, the point where you connect wire in the tank will be point 1]
  2. Now connect the positive end of the buzzer (usually red in color) to the resistance of three LED, which is connected to the positive end of LED(usually longer end is positive), and now connect the same wire to the positive end of the battery cap which is connected to the battery (usually red is for positive).
  3. Now from the negative end (usually smaller end) of the green LED (according to the diagram) connect the wire to point 2 in the water tank. And from the negative end of the blue LED (according to the diagram) connect the wire to point 3 in the water tank. Similarly, from the negative end of the red LED (according to the diagram) connect the wire to point 4 in the water tank. And the final step, from the negative end of the buzzer (according to the diagram) connect the wire to point 5. [Note:- You can change the color of LED according to your convenience and you can also change the distance of points only you have to remember that one of the battery should be at the lowest point in the water tank]

Step 3 – Now check your circuit:-

This you can do it by filling your tank if you follow step perfectly it will start working.

Precaution:-

  • While using connecting wire be careful because one silly mistake can make your circuit a simple waste of time.
  • Always remember, in the LED longer end is for positive and shorter for negative and in battery cap (or buzzer) red is for positive and black for negative.
  • And also remember that you have to connect resistance to the positive end of LED (usually longer end is positive)
  • Now make sure that you have peeled off the wire before you connect it in the tank so that some aluminium part of the wire should touch the water.

Suggestion:-

  • For connecting wire in the tank, you can use hot glue or simply hang the wire make sure length of all wire from LED and buzzer are of different side and shorter than wire from the battery.
  • You can make a box in which you can connect LED and buzzer. And for different LED and buzzer, you can write a different amount of water. For example, you can write 250ml for green, 500ml for blue and so on.
  • You should use high quality of buzzer for good sound and also you should use the fully charged battery for a good experience.
  • If you are using PCB make sure that you solder the wire perfectly according to the diagram.
  • And, if you are using breadboard read the circuit of it by removing its back panel and then follow step 2.
